LANGaming.Net Site to be Archived
Posted on: 12/30/2009 - By: Josh

So I have moved my sites to a new provider and of course, LANGaming.Net was coded on older php code and I am not going to take the time to fix the back end to post the final update. Even this update is being done via a manual entry to the database on the backend. So head over DYKAB.com, my new site. LANGaming.Net will be on DYKAB so the articles will still be accessible. I will be deactivating a lot of the site due to security concerns. I will also post my goodbye message and FINAL LANcast episode soon.

Dear 3DRealms,

So it finally happened. No, not the release of Duke Nukem Forever. But that you are now shut down. Your biggest IP may be lost forever. And why? Because you were a shitty development company. Seriously, 12 years on DNF?? How many engines did you guys go through? 3? 4? And still nothing. You cock teased us with 3 different trailers of gameplay....nothing to show for it.

I see you guys put up a photo of your team, saying Goodbye and thanking the fans. What fans? You fuckers pissed all over Duke Nukem and fucked with these fans too many times. If anyone held out for this long....they were morons. I was one of those morons! I defended you all on an episode of LANCast after the latest trailer in 2007. I knew that DNF would finally be coming out within a year to 18 months. I believed!! And then...nothing.

What publisher in their right mind would support a development company like 3DRealms? 12 years and a shit ton of money on one game. Duke Nukem is great....but he isn't that great. There is no god damned reason why 3DRealms couldn't have been a Bungie type company in the 2000's. How could you fuck up an IP like this!?!

There are reports that Take-Two offered 30 million for the Duke Nukem IP and it was turned down. If this is infact true....WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU SELL IT!?! 30 million for an IP that has been near idle for about 12 years. Let's face it, the recent Duke games have not been that great and have been POS, with the expection of Manhatten Project. 30 million....with a decent company like Take-Two.

Duke Nukem is damaged goods thanks to 3DRealms. Fuck'em! Shut down that POS company. You don't deserve to develope Duke any longer! I was a fan! I supported the effort just to get fucked in the ass and balls smashed! So to that group photo on your website, I hope NO ONE hires any of you or anyone from the past 12 years to develope a game for them. YOU ARE ALL TO BLAME! 12 god damned years...and nothing to show for it!

Good riddance.

Love,

Josh

P.S. If this IS a marketing stunt again, I WILL NOT buy this game. That type of marketing is not cool and fucked up. Grow up!

To whomever picks up the Duke Nukem IP.

Don't fuck it up worse. Finish DNF and continue on. I will buy it as long as 3DRealms is no longer a part of it.

Sincerely,

Josh, Duke's #1 Fan

You know, sometimes nothing happens when it comes to video games. Yeah, a couple of games come out, or something is announced, but for the most part nothing amazing happens. This is one of those weeks. All of the news has been fairly mediocre, which really sucks when it’s your week to write stuff for TWIG.

As I said, gaming news has been lackluster, so let’s talk about what’s going on with LANGaming. One of our awesome feature writers, Richard, is going back to school. This is awesome for him, and we all hope that he does well. He will be taking some leave from the site so he can concentrate on his work, but if and when he decides to come back, we will welcome him with very open arms. Well, as long as he doesn’t mess with my tower defense score!

Josh has been working on getting the equipment ready for some videos, specifically in game video. The quality is great, and we are very excited for this, just need to get everything together. Make sure to bug Josh about it, because I know he loves it when I do so.

We are still waiting for CitiesXL to send us the answers to the interview we had with them. They said our questions were too technical, and they wanted to check with the developers before they answered. Again, blame it all on Josh. His love of city building games has doomed us all.

The geek yard sale is this weekend!!! Make sure you are there for all of the sweet deals! Also, there is a Star Trek outing tomorrow if anyone is interested, check out the forums for more info.

BREAKING: 3dRealms, great developer of the 90's and Duke Nukem creator, has shut down due to lack of funding. Good riddance to a bad developer. 12 years for Duke Nukem Forever....really? Thanks for dicking us around for so long..... (Josh)

Good news for all you 2D fighting fanatics as the seemingly holy grail of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 will be heading to PSN and XBLA this summer. The game will be ported from the Dreamcast version by Foundation 9, better known as Backbone Entertainment, who gave us the fantastic Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix last fall. A demo is expected to release to the PSN on 04/30/2009.

In other porting news, critically acclaimed PC game The Witcher was in development to hit PS3 and Xbox 360 but has since been shelved.

And for you portable fans out there, Peggle will hit the iPhone on May 12, 2009.

I imagine none of you are reading this and that I am speaking to a ghost town, but incase you have been under a rock the Left 4 Dead survival DLC is now available. This adds versus mode to both the Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns. This alone makes the game feel new again, I myself had not seen these campaigns since early in the release of the game. If that was not sweet enough an entirely new Survival Mode has also been added. The Survival Mode takes after the hugely successful Horde mode of Gears of War 2. In Survival you are given a bunch of equipment in a set map and told to live. The enemies coming at you continue to ramp up in frequency and viciousness (3 tanks anyone?). Just to get everyone going I have managed to get to 18:96 in Survival, catch me if you can.

Oh, and some other games came out this week too...

God of War 3 will be getting a special Collectors Edition which is not too surprising but some of the rumors as to it's content may be.  Sony's official Playstation blog has asked the fans what they would most want to see included and one of the options is the first two games on Blu-Ray.  Other options include the usual fare, soundtracks and artwork, along with exclusive DLC and such.  Nothing is set in stone but those out there who have yet to play the original, or those looking to see all three together would be wise to make themselves heard.

The 2007 PC Shooter "Infernal" has been confirmed for the XBOX360 this summer.  "Infernal was always designed with a console release in mind and it's great that we're finally able to release exclusively on XBOX360. The vast array of weaponry and supernatural powers makes Lennox an enviable foe."  Adam McGowan, Marketing Director at Playlogic states.  Infernal: Hell's Vengeance chronicles the attempt of former Etherlite agent Ryan Lennox with supernatural forces such as teleportation and telekinesis at his disposal to uncover his former employers' secret agenda by signing a pact with the devil.

With the Ghostbusters Video Game on the horizon, this week we have for you a video from IGN showing gameplay footage and an interview with Dan Aykroyd as he discusses the game and the possibility of another movie.

April marks the 2 year anniversary of LANGaming.Net and our premire podcast LANCast. Improving the site has been a constant over the years and the next won't be any different. Renovations to the site will be underway over the next month. We will continue to integrate WherestheLAN.com as our main feed of upcoming LANs. With this, we will also be going back to basics and featuring more LANs. Get on the list if you are not already, we will be feature from WTL!

Our biggest change marks the end of an era that put the site on the map. LANCast has recorded their last show. The show is available if you know where to look and will be featured during our next site update this weekend. We are also annoucing our new podcast this month. This is a continuation of LANCast, but with a different name and fresh format. Don't worry, the crew will still be there. New regulars will be Chris, Josh, and Ben with James as host. Look for this near the end of the month.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making this site what it is. Past staff, present staff, everyone in the forums, and abroad. LANGaming.Net will continue to evolve and with LANs on the rise again, we will be the #1 source.

Now, for the news....the Nintendo DSi was released this week. That is all!

Sometimes the world is just crazy.  Seriously!  Just take a look at Malcolm Palmer, a 62 year old man, who purchased a Playstation and Grand Theft Auto for his 10 year old son.  It seems that Malcom wasn't so happy that his girlfriend of 30 years had became hooked on GTA and played it like an addict.  After sleeping on the sofa beause his girlfriend was playing GTA on the TV in the bedroom, Malcom stabbed her in the chest 20 times with two knives.  What is equally disguting to this whole situation is how the defense attorney for Malcom is saying that the root cause of the attack was the purchase of the Playstation.  The attorney seems to leave out details such as Malcom thinking that his girlfriend was cheating on him, or the fact that Malcom when ballistic last year when his girlfriend threated to move out and take the kids with her.

Now just for a second, lets look at the situation.  Parents buy an M rated game for their 10 year old son.  One person become addicted to games, and is possibly cheating on their partner.  A dude stabs someone else.  All this, and somehow it began with the purchase of a game console?

In related news, you can now pick up a Playstion 2 for $99.  Just make sure you don't let your girlfriend play it.

Will the next generation of gaming lay the console wars to rest? Mova, the creators of a OnLive may have reason to argue. Announced this week at GDC, OnLive aims to deliver games in which all the processing is handled from the server end then streamed to virtually any Windows XP or higher PC and Intel based Mac or through their own Microconsole which can be connected to any HDMI enabled TV.

This week was very news heavy on the heels of GDC and this story seems to be the most unique one to emerge. Will this be the wave of the future? With the surely subscription based service outweigh the price of upgrades and game purchases? Can this be done successfully considering broadband penetration? The service is currently in beta, so if anyone is testing this out drop us a line and let us know what you think!

I could ask you to look at this screenshot and say, "What game do you see here?" Everyone of you would rightly answer, " That is the greatest game ever, also known as Starsiege: Tribes," I would of course tell you what a smart person you were and together we would reminice over what that game meant to us. This is what we would have done, but now thanks to the guys at InstantAction.com we will be playing Tribes again, only this time through our browsers. Checkout their blog post for details, and while there check out some of the other unbelieveable browser based games they offer.

Just a warning to the eager StarCrafters out there, apparently LAN play is still unconfirmed in StarCraft 2. Diablo 3 has already been confirmed to not have any LAN support leadin one to assume that the same fate may lie in StarCraft 2 as well. It really is unfortunate because these are the games that great LAN parties are at times made of and to see this support stripped certainly leaves a bit of a frown on the face. However, this is just speculation as when asked about LAN play in StarCraft 2 Blizzard has simply avoided the question. You have been warned.

Nintendo can now be entered into the record books as having it's Nintendo DS sell 100 million units faster than any other console.  Combined sales of the DS, DSlite, and the DSi reached this amazing number in 4 years and 3 months where the original gameboy took 11 years and 2 months to do the same, and Playstion 2 came in second taking 5 years and 8 months to get there.

Nintendo's new inovations in gaming and ease of use have always kept them competitive despite the fact that hardware in their systems may not be as advanced as their rivals.  Tapping into alternative gaming audiences really seems to be paying off for them. "We are grateful that people of all ages continue to respond to our products, and we will continue to look for ways to please current gamers and create new ones." says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

So how does Nitendo celebrate these amazing sales figures? By hiking up the price of the Wii in the United Kingdom.  Recently Nintendo announced that they will be raising the consoles retail price by 18-20 GBP from the current price of 179.99 GBP.  This increase is being blamed on the continueing depreciation of the British Pound.  This hopefully will not set a trend in the gaming market in England or anywhere else for that matter.

The resurgence of LAN Parties. This week has been very eventful for me on the LAN front. We have partnered with WherestheLAN.com and will soon incorporate their feed of LANs across the US into our site here. LANGaming.Net now owns the old skool site LANLocator.com and will be starting the first maintained archives of the good ole days, meaning websites and forums if we can find them. And just in Virginia here, several LAN parties out of no where that are not our own.

Are LANs starting to come off the endangered list? It seems to be headed in that direction folks. Maybe it is because of the economy and people want cheap entertainment. That is why I started LAG with some friends in 2001. I was just laid off and the LAN party at my house was just too much. Maybe this has been building up with all the consoles gaming going on and people want to socialize in person again? It is hard to say. But I am happy that our site is here and active.

I really hope that some of the old skool sites like LANParty.com come back. And hopefully defunked LANs like EastCoastLAN or Fragstock will come back. The resurgence is on....time to support the cause! Support your local LAN and get out to the bigger events around the country.

BTW, a little LAN Event known as Quakecon 2009 will be starting registrations this Friday.

I know what it is....Starcraft and Diablo 3 talk has spurred interest in LAN Parties again. Guess what? A DIABLO 2 PATCH! These are pinnacle to old skool gaming and they are continuing to patch and ask for input from gamers. Blizzard rules.

One last blast from the past, check out the Goldeneye Source Beta 3. Very cool mod, props to the devs for this classic revival on the PC.

It might not be a suprise, but gamers like good deals.  Good deals mean we can buy more games!  It should come as no suprise then that Steam is having another deal this week.  To celebrate the release of the the scout update, until this Friday, we all can buy Team Fortress 2 for 50% off.

Speaking of the TF2 Scout update, lets take a look at what we have:

-3 New Scout Weapons.

  • The Force of Nature
  • The Sandman
  • Bonk Energy Drink

-3 New Maps

-1 Updated Map

-More Achievements

Pretty sweet for a free patch.  If anyone is looking for a great game to play, check out TF2.  Its worth it!

For those that are still playing Call of Duty Four, the map pack just went on sale for 50% off.  Also, this weekend the double xp switch is turning on.  If you are still trying to gain some prestige ranks, jump in a CoD4 game.

Congrats to the King of the Arcade winner Jaggedfel01. He totally stomped the competition. Not only was Tbeers beaten for the first time, but Jaggedfel01 also beat Attipark at Tower Defense. New games are now available in the forum arcade so be sure to check them out.

The news has been sluggish this week, but EA did announce that they are working on an American McGee's Alice sequel. The first game was a really unique adventure and I feel that some of the things it did with level design have been left untouched since. Let's all hope this project falls into the right hands and gets the love it deserves.

This week we also have a 13 year old dad telling us how he is going to be a good father. Yes a 13 year old dad and a 15 year old mother, fresh from the hospital spend some quality time playing Saints Row II with baby in arms. Some people might blame mature games on these teenage parents, but me, I blame the Wii.

P.S. Why are you reading this, go play Street Fighter!

Update on King
Posted on: 02/09/2009 - By: Josh - Owner of LANGaming

Those that follow the site should know who King is in the forums. If not, get your ass in there! King has been a long time friend to us on LANGaming.Net but more importantly, a long time supporter of our LAN Parties with LAG and SCL here in Virginia.

We will be posting update in the forums but will provide frontpage updates on LAGSCL.com since that is the part of the family that has been affected the most. We got a lot of good news today but the outpouring of support and love for this guy has been overwhelming and so heartwarming.

LANGaming.Net will continue operations in the coming days as will the King of the Arcade Tourney. We did want to wait till we know that King is headed towards recovery and out of ICU. Thank you all locally to us here in Virginia and to those visiting the site from across the interwebs for understanding!
